The Yacht Club is a construction fence. That is the sentence you hear at Publix, at Nauti-Dawg, at the pickup line for tennis. For a waterfront town whose social geometry has orbited the same address on NE 42nd Street since 1961, the closure of the original clubhouse for a full teardown is a bigger event than any single restaurant opening or park concert. It reroutes the week.
What is surprising is where the week has rerouted to. Not the marinas up and down the Intracoastal, not the beach in Pompano, not a rival club. It moved a few blocks inland, to a park, a stretch of Federal Highway, and a set of Wednesday-to-Sunday dinner reservations that have quietly become the summer calendar for people who already live here.
The redevelopment is not cosmetic.
